OpenAI Codex
Link your OpenAI account seamlessly with Sypha using OAuth to quickly access OpenAI's powerful suite of models.
OpenAI Codex allows you to connect your personal or enterprise OpenAI account directly to Sypha via zero-configuration OAuth. This means no more managing or exposing API keys. Just sign in to your OpenAI account via your browser with one click, and you'll immediately unlock all language models included in your OpenAI plan.
If you would rather use a standard API key, check out the OpenAI (API Key) provider documentation instead.
Prerequisites
- An active OpenAI account
- A valid OpenAI subscription or paid API access tier
The exact models you see in the dropdown will be tied directly to your OpenAI account's tier. Visit OpenAI's pricing page to understand what is included in each plan.
Connecting Your OpenAI Account
Click the settings gear icon found in the top-right corner of the Sypha panel.
Select "OpenAI Codex" from the available options in the "API Provider" dropdown list.
Click the "Sign in with OpenAI" button. A browser window will open to handle the OAuth authentication.
In the new browser window:
- Sign in to your OpenAI account (if you aren't already).
- Review the permissions that Sypha is requesting.
- Click the "Authorize" button to finalize access.
After successfully authorizing, you'll be redirected back to Sypha. Select your chosen model from the "Model" dropdown list.
If a specific model is missing from the list, it's likely not supported or granted under your current OpenAI subscription tier.
For the most up-to-date catalog of models and their distinct features, reviewing the official OpenAI Models documentation is highly recommended.
Managing Your Connection
Disconnecting Your Account
If you wish to log out and disconnect your OpenAI account from Sypha:
- Open Sypha Settings.
- Make sure the OpenAI Codex provider is selected, then click the "Sign out" button.
- Confirm that you want to disconnect.
This will completely revoke the OAuth connection. You can log back in at any time.
Token Refreshing
Sypha handles the automatic refreshing of OAuth tokens behind the scenes. If you run into unexpected authentication errors:
- Try disconnecting and then reconnecting your account.
- Confirm your OpenAI account has no standing issues or bans.
- Ensure your subscription payment was successful.
Troubleshooting
"Authentication failed" error
- Double-check you are logging into the correct OpenAI account.
- Verify your OpenAI subscription hasn't lapsed.
- Clear your browser's cookies and cache, then attempt another sign-in.
Models are totally missing
- Model availability is tightly coupled with your OpenAI subscription tier.
- You might need to upgrade your OpenAI plan to see advanced or newly released models.
- Review OpenAI's pricing page to match models to plan tiers.
The OAuth popup window doesn't appear
- Pop-up blockers in your browser may be stopping the window.
- Test the login process on a different browser.
- Verify your internet connectivity is stable.
Fast expiring connections
- While rare, this happens if your primary OpenAI web session was actively expired.
- Disconnect and reconnect your account within Sypha to quickly fix this.
Good to Know
Sypha limits its permission requests to only what is strictly necessary to make API calls for you. Furthermore, your exact OpenAI login credentials are never saved or seen by the Sypha backend.
When leveraging OpenAI Codex, Sypha will route requests through your standard OpenAI/ChatGPT subscription. This means you do not face a separate per-token billing system or use up traditional API credits; your usage limits are determined wholly by your active ChatGPT or OpenAI website plan, not through Sypha.
